This is the case profile of Ms. Em Phallmony, Deputy Governor at Siem Reap province. It is the first series to publish women`s case profiles at provincial level, to promote women`s political representation in Cambodia at the national and sub-national levels. The series aims at encouraging the public interest in women`s representation in politics, promoted by The Project to Promote Women`s Political Representation in Cambodia hosted by The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR).

A year on CCHR mourns the murder of environmental activist Chut Wutty and the twin scourges of violence

A year on, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) marks the first anniversary of the murder of Chut Wutty on 26 April 2012 in the remote Cardamom Mountains of Koh Kong province in the Kingdom of Cambodia (“Cambodia”), and mourns his loss. Chut Wutty was the founder and director of the Natural Resource Protection Group, and was Cambodia’s foremost environmental and anti-logging activist.
CCHR launches a new Human Rights Defenders website containing valuable information on international and Cambodian laws and an interactive legal forum

oday, 18 January 2013, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”) Human Rights Defenders Project launches a new website, www.sithi.org/hrd, which is designed to be an important source of information to assist human rights defenders (“HRDs”), lawyers and members of civil society in the legal protection and the promotion of human rights, particularly the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly in Cambodia.
Recent acid attack demonstrates lack of progress on the implementation of Acid Law

According to a 24 December 2012 article in the Phnom Penh Post Newspaper (“Acid death may test law”) a woman died after being the victim of a cruel acid attack in Sihanoukville. The victim, Kruy Aing Chheng, was a 20-year-old card dealer in a casino in Sihanoukville. She was attacked on the night of 21 December 2012, during which acid was poured on her head and into her mouth. She died from her injuries after being brought to a hospital in Phnom Penh. Her boyfriend, who is wanted for questioning by the authorities, has since then fled.
