Round Table Discussion The Role of Women in Political Participation at Commune/Sangkat Level

| As part of the Project to Promote Women’s Political Representation in Cambodia (“The Project”) the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) organized a Round Table Discussion with representatives from political parties and civil society at the Hagar Catering & Facilities Management in Phnom Penh on 30 April 2012. The purpose of this event was to bring together different stakeholders working on the political participation of women in Cambodia to debate on the significant role and the political parties’ positions on women in politics. In the context of the approaching Commune/Sangkat Elections in June 2012 the Round Table Dialogue was aimed at providing participants with a platform to discuss gender-related issues at the commune level. Twenty-seven people participated in the Round Table Discussion including seven members from the main opposition parties (Sam Rainsy Party, FUNCINPEC, Human Rights Party, Norodom Ranariddh Party) and nineteen representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and media organisations and one independent consultant. |
