CCHR’s Hotline in 2012 and a New Human Rights Chronology

This edition of the Sithi Project semi-annual newsletter highlights the CCHR Human Rights Hotline statistics for 2012 and some of the key human rights issues that are reported through the Hotline. This issue also provides an overview of the events that took place in Cambodia in celebration of International Human Rights Day in the Kingdom of Cambodia (“Cambodia”), as well as the Sithi Project’s newest endeavor, a human rights chronology.

Highlighting the Gap between Commitment and Reality

The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) Sithi Project today releases the fifth edition of our bi-monthly project newsletter titled “Highlighting the Gap between Commitment and Reality”. The focus of the newsletter is Sithi’s two newest features – a map of acid attacks in Cambodia from 2009 to 2012 and a data analysis of the latest Commune/Sangkat Elections in June 2012 – which highlight the need for the Royal Government of Cambodia to follow-up on its commitments to address human rights issues with concrete initiatives.

Sithi Newsletter Vol 4: Sithi Monitors Freedom of Expression in Cambodia

On 3 May, the world celebrated World Press Freedom Day. This edition of the Sithi Project bi-monthly newsletter, the fourth to date, thus focuses on freedom of expression, featuring two items – the recently published map of harassment of media cases and the death of environmental activist Chut Wutty – two topics that illustrate the perilous state of freedom of expression in Cambodia.

The Cambodian Human Rights Network ("the Network") Project is a Cambodian Center for Human Rights ("CCHR") project, generously funded by Diakonia, which has been established in order to support human rights activism as a community level. The Project, which began in June 2010, facilitates training on human rights to grassroots activists working for Community Based Organizations ("CBOs").

Sithi means ‘rights’ in Khmer; the Sithi Project aims to increase awareness and understanding of human rights (especially civil and political rights) and their status in Cambodia. This third edition of the Sithi Project bi-monthly newsletter focuses on the development of the online human rights portal, Sithi.org, its achievements so far, and its new look and functionality as Sithi.org version 4.0.

A multi-Faceted Approach to The Protection and Promotion of Human Rights

Today – 30 January 2012 – The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) Sithi project releases the second edition of its bi monthly newsletter, entitled “A multi-Faceted Approach to the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights.” This month’s edition illustrates this multi-faceted approach by examining work that the CCHR, through the Sithi Project and activists trained by the Sithi Project, have undertaken to resolve issues and push for greater respect in relation to land rights.
