Today, 2 July 2026, marks two years since the conviction and imprisonment of Mother Nature activists. Since their conviction in July 2024, bail applications of five imprisoned activists have been denied repeatedly. Their appeal hearings have been postponed twice.
CCHR has assessed that this significant delay not only impacts their right to the presumption of innocence, but also that the repeated denial of their bail requests whilst they await their delayed appeal trial further undermines their right to liberty. CCHR releases the timeline of its case to date and reiterates its previous calls for the overturning of the convictions of these environmental defenders and the release of the five environmental activists.
